Information Report on the activity:

The 14th edition of COMPOSITE-EXPO exhibition organized by Mir-Expo Exhibition Company was held on March 29 - 31, 2022 at Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow, Russia. The event is a traditional annual business meeting place of Russian and foreign industry experts, manufacturers, suppliers & consumers of composites, technologies & equipment for composites finished products, it’s a wrap-up meeting place and source of new information the further development would be difficult without.

Composite materials still have the most important positive characteristics of mechanical strength, lightness and insulation functions. Based on this, they open the way to more sustainable industrial use in all types of transport, construction, energy, electrical solutions, etc

In 2022, the exhibition was attended by 90 companies from 7 countries (Germany, Italy, China, the Republic of Belarus, Russia, Turkey, and France).

In the show among the permanent exhibitors were the following companies: ALVIS NTO, UTS group, Bang & Bonsomer, BauTex, Raduga Syntez, BMP Technology, Carbon Studio, CMS SPA, DUGALAK, Eurohim-1, Glasstex, Melytec LLC, MegaPlast, Elektroizolit PJSC, Epital ENPC, KORSIL-Trade, INTREY Polymer Systems LLC, ITECMA, Leuco Rus, Limited Liability CS Composites, NEO Chemical, Neva Technology, Nouryon, Nortex, Polymerprom LLC, Polotsk-Steklovolokno, Sealing Materials Plant, Lavesan Srl, SKM Polymer LLC, Tatneft-Presskompozit, Hydromaniya, and others.

The following companies exhibited at the event for the first time: Alterhim, Virsemi LLC, INTRA Service Company LLC, Acmos Chemie, Allnex, Kamensky Production Plant, Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev (KNRTU-KAI named after A.N. Tupolev), Krastsvetmet, KUDO Trading House, Labara-Rus, Lamplex Composite, METACLAY, Peleng, SIBUR, Slantsy-Him, Sovremennye Tehnologii SN, Superplast, Textima Export Import GmnH, Formula Carbon, Eksim Kimya, and others.

A number of participants presented new technologies and product samples:

The company METACLAY presented at the exhibition METALEN PE-21 - an innovative insulation system for monolayer coating of gas and oil pipelines, protecting steel pipes against aggressive external environment. The technology is used on an industrial scale for the first time in the world and replaces the three-layer coating system. METALENTA is a composite material based on modified PE, unidirectionally reinforced with glass roving and a set of additives, which give the material increased resistance to thermal-oxidative degradation during processing and operation. COATMET AFM is a powder based on polyethylene and a complex of modifying additives improving technological and operational properties of the product surface. It is suitable for protective coating of metal products with surfaces of complex configuration. COATMET AFM has high adhesive properties, designed to create external and internal anti-corrosive protective coatings.

Vitrulan Composites Oy deals with the development and production of special high-strength carbon and fiberglass based reinforcing coatings, which are perfectly complemented by the production of Vitrulan products in the technical field of textiles, and also reach other areas of application for new groups. The company present at Composite-Expo 2022 an innovative fabric – HighFlow - that optimizes the impregnation of the dry NCF package during the resin infusion process and helps to produce composites faster and more efficiently. One of its uses is in rotor blades for wind turbines and the marine industry. Benefits at a glance are as follows: facilitates full wetting of the fabric and minimizes air bubbles; maximizes resin infusion with 300-500% faster process speeds for the total laminate structure.

At the Composite-Expo 2022 exhibition company SUPERPLAST presented the new product-basalt composite fiber (mini rebar). According to the test results, the persistence of mechanical strength after exposure to alkali exceeds 80%.

Tatneft-Presskomposite presented a project, as a result of which fundamentally new eco-friendly composite products will be presented to the Russian market. The company has produced the first samples of new composite profiles and benches using natural material - flax. Already today, flax has replaced glass material up to 5% in the manufacture of composite products. Composite products are designed to replace traditional materials (steel, wood, etc.) due to a number of advantages: corrosion resistance, the highest strength-to-weight ratio, long service life and a significant reduction in the carbon footprint. Use as a raw material of plant origin – flax, will allow the Company not only to further reduce its carbon footprint, which corresponds to its conscious and responsible environmental ESG course, but also to completely eliminate toxic waste in the future. Such "ECO" products can be used in the improvement of park, urban territories.

Kombinat Kamensky Federal State-Owned Enterprise - one of the largest chemical industry enterprise of Southern Russia – presented at the stand the POLYCAM series polyester resins being produced for a wide range of general industrial applications, as a binder in the manufacture of structural materials. POLYCAM are used for the manufacture of containers, pipes, decorative products, cast stone, composite sheet, polymer concrete, fiberglass for various purposes. In combination with reinforcing fibers and fillers, have low volume shrinkage, easy wetting of fiberglass. The choice of binder determines the final characteristics of the resulting material. Resins are presented in various modifications: pre-accelerated, thixotropic, with low styrene emission. The specialized research laboratory allows manufacture products with characteristics adapted to the consumer.

The company Labara-rus LLC specializes in the machining of electrical insulation and composite materials for all types of electrical and power equipment. The company presented at the show a structural fiberglass profile, which can be used in the manufacture of load-bearing structures, building frames, bridges, canopies, bus shelters. From this profile, railings are made indoors and fences of park and pedestrian zones, garden and land plots, fences of bridges. Due to the excellent dielectric properties of the structural fiberglass profile, ladders and ladders are made from it. This profile is widely used in the manufacture of lighting poles, flagpoles, in the equipment of drainage systems, cable channels.

An important event of the business program of the Composite-Expo 2022 exhibition was the second edition of Practical use of composite materials in different industries (R&D Conference) which was held on March 30, 2022, in the Conference Hall on the territory of the exhibition pavilion No. 1. The conference was attended by more than 60 specialists. Vladimir Bannikov, General Director of Mir-Expo VC LLC, welcomed the conference delegates. The Conference was moderated by Olga Gladunova, Editor-in-Chief of the Composite World magazine.

During the event, practical aspects of the use of composite materials and products made of composites in priority sectors of the economy were discussed.

Tatiana Lapitskaya, General Director of JSC ENPC Epital, made a presentation on "High-strength heat-resistant epoxy matrices for the manufacture of products, tooling and coating".

Denis Komarov, Sales Manager of Vitrulan Composites Oy spoke about the innovative glass- and carbon fiber fabrics for modern composites products.

Sergey Galyshev, a researcher at the Institute of Solid State Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFTT RAS), dedicated his speech to a composite with an aluminum matrix and carbon fiber.

Vladislav Marinin, Key Account Manager of SIBUR Company, shared the company’s experience of opening of the first maleic anhydride production in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Anna Reztsova, a leading technical specialist at Neo Chemical Company, spoke about trends in the development of the composites market in conditions of scarcity.

Head of the Department of NC NPK TECHNOVOTUM Marat Sabrekov made a presentation "Diagnostics of composite materials, modern tools and methods. Tasks and solutions".

Ilya Vihrov, Deputy Director General for Science of Research Institute of Space and Aviation Materials / NIIKAM, dedicated his speech to new composite materials of the Aristar and Aristide brands for products of space, aviation and other types of equipment.

At the same time with Composite-Expo, there held the 13th edition of the international specialized exhibition POLYURETHANEX that allowed a wide range of specialists to get acquainted with innovation technologies of manufacturing and samples of finished products of polyurethane materials for different branches of industry and attracted significant attention of specialists of the industry: manufacturers and consumers of adhesive and sealing materials.

In 2022 40 exhibitors took part in the events from 7 countries (Germany, China, the Republic of Belarus, Russia, Turkey, UAE and the Islamic Republic of Iran). 

In 2022, on the space about 5400 sq. m. there situated 130 exhibitors, including 101 national (domestic) companies and 29 foreign ones from 8 countries. About 5400 people visited the shows and 90% of them were specialists in different fields of industry. It witnesses growing demands of the Russian market to use modern innovation materials and technologies in different industries.

Last year we only visited it for the first time and we liked the activity of the public: we were pleased with the results, so we repeated our presence this year. At this exhibition, the spectrum of exhibitors and visitors is very diverse: there are both small manufacturers who use polyester resin in their production, and large consumers. I would like to note the highest possible percentage of profile clients. There are no random people here and, of course, we rate highly the exhibition effectiveness.
